A barred owl works on swallowing a small rodent shortly after catching it along the Deschutes River. Barred owls are an opportunistic hunter and can sometimes be seen at dusk waiting high up on a perch to swoop down on their prey and usually swallow smaller prey whole, but bigger catches are often carried back to a perch before being consumed.
